HEART DISEASE AND WOMEN

It is commonly  know that as men grow older they are more likely to develop heart related problems which are aggravated by high blood pressure, stress , high cholesterol and smoking.

Unfortunately a lot of the population are just not aware of the potential problems facing women in the area of heart disease.  Most of us have a tendency to think of the major women's health problem as breast cancer but the fact is that heart disease in women is a more serious threat to their health than breast cancer.  In fact a womans chance of dying with heart disease is a lot higher than with breast cancer.

Women generally will develop heart disease later in life than men do but still heart disease in women accounts for more deaths in women as they get older than all cancers combined.  This is a very shocking statistic but true.

Both men and women have a real hard time being disciplined enough to live the kind of lifestyle that prevents eventual heart disease.  In the current American environment we all live in today it is becoming increasingly harder to avoid heart disease and the symptoms that lead up to it such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Most of  Americans today are faced with the daily temptations of our fast paced society that include long commutes to work, stressful situations at work, the always present need to "keep up with the jones".  Add to this the fast food world we live in and you can include overeating and eating foods with too much fat which can lead to obesity which is another major concern of women with heart disease.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE FOR A HEALTHY HEART

Men are more likely to survive a heart attack than women.  As odd as this sounds the statistics bear this our.  So as a woman you should start now on a regiment of healthy living that is conducive to a healthy heart.

Please keep in mind that you can change your bad habits and defeat heart disease, you just need to have your priorities in the right order.

The following are just some of the most basic changes you should make if you are serious about maintaining a healthy heart and living a long and happy life.

The first thing you need to do is get a thorough check up and discuss any health concerns you may have with your Doctor including your family health history on both sides of your family tree.

These tips are all very elementary and fundamental but they merit repeating as America is faced with a heart health crisis.  We all can probably benefit from reviewing this helpful health information.

Lets start with our blood pressure.  If you have high blood pressure chances are you can benefit almost immediately by improving your eating habits and reducing your intake of foods with high fat and cholesterol and salt.  Making these simple changes will be your first step to improving your heart health.

Of course if you smoke cut back or quit altogether.  There are a lot of aids on the market today that can make the quitting process a lot easier including prescription medicine and nicotine patches. We realize that people that smoke claim to like it but you need to ask yourself the question, which is more important, my cigarettes or my health.  A high percentage of heart attacks of women 30-50 can be attributed to being related to smoking.

Remember if you are overweight the additional pounds you carry around can put undue stress on your already overworked heart not to mention the potential of aggravating other health problems including diabetes.  So, the moral of the story is to loose weight and implement an exercise program as part of the process.  You will look better and feel better about yourself and live longer.

Don't forget you should include daily multi-vitamins and nutritional supplements as a part of your daily health program.  Remember to ask your Doctor if you should have any questions about the type and dosage of any dietary supplement program you implement.

To summarize;  maintain your blood pressure at a normal level, quit smoking, reduce your weight if overweight, develop healthy eating habits and implement a regular exercise regiment as part of your daily routine.  Don't forget to get regular checkups and talk to your Doctor about any concerns you may have.
