Vegans are basically vegetarians that do not believe in eating any kind of meat, in addition they refrain from consuming any type of dairy products or modern processed foods that may contain ingredients from animals.

WHY CHOOSE THE VEGAN LIFESTYLE ?

The overriding answer to that question lies in the Vegan belief of a better world when we treat all animals with kindness and not cruelty. The Vegan lifestyle and diet all stem from this basic perception.  

Many Vegans choose the Vegan lifestyle  for moral and ethical reasons. They have an absolute sympathy for all animals that are either mistreated or inconvienced by mankind.  This makes up their core beliefs.  In essence they believe sincerely that the world's environment would be substantially better off if everyone adopted a regimented Vegan Lifestyle.

In addition Vegans believe that the Vegan diet leads to a happier and healthier stress free quality of life.  The Vegan is concerned about their health and point out that a healthier Vegan diet results in lowering Cholesterol, reducing the risk of several kinds of Cancer, improved Heart health resulting in reduced heart attacks and strokes. They also believe that the Vegan diet reduces the chance of Diabetes and obesity and stress in both men and women.


THE SOURCE OF THE VEGAN DIET

Protein is critical to any diet and the Vegan can acquire this from several foods including  Rice, spinach, broccoli, peanut butter, tofu and soy milk just to name few. In addition the Vegan diet will consist of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, lots of leafy greens and whole grain products. Of course the Vegan diet is basically fat free and this leads to improved health.

Vegans must also have a source of the key vitamins not included in the normal vegan diet such as Vitamin D.  A good source of Vitamin D is several minutes of sunlight exposure each day . Another important aspect of the Vegan diet is Calcium.  Vegans can achieve the daily requirement of Calcium by consuming dark green vegetables and Tofu or if they choose can add Vegan calcium supplements.
